Our History
- 1992
Our first real engagement as a catering team, it was in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.
Later that year we did our first big gig, “Bluesfest” in Byron bay.
Our menu was very simple (fried rice, pakoras and chutney for $4). - 1993
Mind body and spirit fest, and “Big Day Out” for the first time.
The menu starts to evolve (rice, vegetable curry, dahl, pakoras and chutney). - 1993 – 1997
Ajita and his crew began to gain a reputation among festival organisers and build a good rapport with the public. - 1997
Ajita begins to manage New Govardhana. - 1997 – 2003
Madan Gopal took over with guidance from Ajita.
Braja Gauranga came on board helping Madan around 2003. - 2003
Ajita started Bluesfest again with a borrowed van, borrowed equipment and a green crew.
The mighty kofta as we know it begins its evolution.
Bluesfest team were Ajita, Peter, Solomon, Ian, Gaby, Adeha and Gokula. With the money raised we bought commercial catering equipment. - 2004
We get into “Woodford Folk Festival”, “Gecko”, and “Splendour in the Grass” for the very first time. - 2005
Everything relocated to our New Govardhana spiritual farming community.
Braja Gauranga also moved to New Govardhana and took the helm, then slowly built up the catering infrastructure and festival base. We then started travelling to North Queensland, Sydney, Canberra and other areas. - 2008
We build 10 metre long mobile kitchen to serve all large events.
Braja Gauranga was running one truck for about 3 years, then we bought another truck and we had 2 sometimes 3 teams going out to festivals. Under the name “Hare Krishna Pure Vegetarian”.
In early 2010 Braja Gauranga stepped down and gave the keys to Krishna Gana, who has been running the catering programs ever since. - 2009
The New Govardhana community opens a restaurant in Burleigh Heads called “Govindas“. - 2011
We changed all our catering trucks names from “Hare Krishna Pure Vegetarian” to “Govindas Pure Vegetarian”. - 2013
We decided we needed to go to the next step, upgrading our set up by building another new mobile van and creating a bigger and better menu. - Future
We would like to be able to build another mobile kitchen, and explore the idea of doing the summer festival circuit in Europe and North America, while maintaining our great festival circuit in Australia.
